Meet the Nordel Physio Team

At Nordel Physiotherapy and Sports Clinic, Sunil Sakkarwal and Gurdeep Gill Sakkarwal provide a full complement of therapeutic services for healing body ailments and promoting physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle. The couple has been in the health and fitness industry for over 15 years. Both have enjoyed successful careers as Physiotherapists, Yoga Teachers, and Personal Trainers. They are pleased to apply their knowledge, training, and experience to treating and working with clients at Nordel Physio, providing individualized care and one-to-one therapy for resolving pain, recovering from injury, and promoting overall fitness.

  • Sunil Sakkarwal

    Clinic Manager

    Sunil Sakkarwal has been in the health and fitness industry for over 20 years. He is a registered Yoga Instructor, Personal Trainer and Weight Trainer with BCRPA and he has enjoyed a successful career as a Physiotherapist and Yoga Instructor. Sunil’s recent experience includes:

    • Yoga Instructor with the City of Surrey, BC
    • Yoga Instructor, Place Maillardville, Coquitlam, BC
    • Personal Trainer at Steve Nash Fitness World, Delta, BC
    • Yoga Instructor and Demonstrator for KVOS TV show

    As a Health and Fitness expert he was a guest speaker on radio RED FM Vancouver, 93.1FM, and on Joy TV.  He has presented Yoga workshops on Yoga for Fitness, Office Yoga, and Chair Yoga, and a seminar on the role of Yoga for Injury Prevention and Healing.

    Sunil is passionate about helping people overcome injuries and physical challenges, as well as developing their personal fitness for long term health and well-being.

  • Gurdeep Gill Sakkarwal

    Registered Physiotherapist

    Gurdeep completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree in 2005 from the MGM Medical College, DAVV University, Indore, India, and Master of Sports Physiotherapy degree in 2007 from the GNDU University, Amritsar,India.

    She did her postgraduate research paper on Comparison of Efficacy of Thera-Band, Plyometric and Combination Training on strength of Quadriceps evaluated on Isoinertial Dynamometer. This research paper was published in the Journal of Sports authority of India (2007). She has presented scientific papers at the Annual Conference of Indian Association of Sports Medicine in 2005 and 2006.Since her graduation, she has been practicing Physiotherapy. She is licensed for IMS/Dry Needling treatment and she is presently pursuing Acupuncture.

    Gurdeep has experience in teaching as well. She was visiting lecturer at MGM Medical College, India, for Yoga Therapy. In 2010, she became a registered Yoga Instructor and Personal Trainer with BCRPA. She has worked as a Yoga instructor at the South Surrey Recreation Center and as a Yoga Instructor on a KVOS TV show. She has been consulted on Red FM a few times as a Physiotherapist, and recently was a speaker on iCON. Gurdeep’s professional attitude involves an integrative approach. Her treatment technique focuses on both assessment and treatment, to maximize functional recovery. She believes the best results can be achieved from a positive approach, and that a positive environment can improve health and quality of life.

    Gurdeep is an active person. She does yoga every day and various fitness activities to maintain her own positive health and fitness, and she is a proud Vancouver Sun Run finisher.

  • Shivesh Setia


    Shivesh Setia graduated with a Bachelors of Physiotherapy from Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in India in 2006 & master’s degree of Physiotherapy in musculoskeletal condition in 2010. He worked as a Physiotherapist in India in both hospital and clinic-based settings.

    Shivesh Immigrated to Canada in 2015 and completed a Canadian Healthcare Content Course at University of Alberta. He then finished his IEP program from UBC in 2018 and passed Canadian Physiotherapy National Examination.

    He uses integrated Manual therapy (Mobilization, Soft tissue release, Trigger point release, Muscle energy technique and various other) with Exercise prescription to treat Orthopedic, Neurological, Sports, Work related and Motor vehicle accident injuries. He also treats post-op and chronic pain cases.

    He is interested to fortify his skills by taking new courses to upgrade his knowledge. His Hobbies are spending time with family, travelling to new places and listening to music. Shivesh is fluent in English, Punjabi and Hindi.

  • Bhakti Salian


    I believe that “Bodies are meant to move”. My passion for fitness has aspired me towards my profession, where in I obtain the pleasure to get my clients functionally active and share my enthusiasm towards healthy living. Every injury and dysfunction is unique therefore every individual responds differently to the treatments.

    I feel content towards providing the tailored and holistic approach which combines the functional goals and clinical expertise to develop an individual rehab plan. I seize every opportunity to educate my clients about their condition and how they can manage their symptoms. I strongly feel that Physiotherapy is both a Reactive and Pro-active practice.

    The Treatment sessions heavily focus on exercises, patient education, manual therapy and take away
    “Homework” so that the patient plays an active role in their recovery and rehab.

  • Monika Deol

    Registered Interim Physiotherapist

    She completed Bachelors of Physiotherapy from India in 2013. She has worked in India for 3 years before moving to Canada. Her work portfolio in India included patients with Orthopedic, Neurological and Sports conditions. She has also presented a paper on “Effect of Manual Therapy on Tennis Elbow” at the 3rd international conference on manual therapy held in 2013.

    Monika specializes in providing treatment for a wide range of injuries and pain with particular interest in the treatment of neck pain, shoulder rehab, hip, knee and back problems. She excels at identifying root causes of pain, such as movement dysfunction, muscle imbalance and postural fault. She works with her clients to develop an individualized treatment plan customized to their very needs, with an aim to restore each client to their normal physical activity. She incorporates manual therapy techniques (including joint and soft tissue mobilization), modalities, therapeutic exercises, and education in the treatment of her clients.

    She speaks fluent English, Hindi and Punjabi. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

  • Byoungju (Jay) Jun

    Registered Massage Therapist

    Jay is a graduate of the Registered Massage Therapy program at Vancouver Career College. His journey in massage therapy have begun from his sport injury when he was a soccer player. He is passionate about helping patients from chronic pain due to poor posture or working, motor vehicle accidents, stress, and sport or work injuries.

  • Tony Wu

    Registered Massage Therapist

    Tony graduated from the Massage Therapy program at the Vancouver Career College and is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia. During his training, he was able to participate in many outreach opportunities and treated patients with various conditions. He worked with elderly patients, athletes, individuals with mental or physical disabilities, and those living with HIV and cancer. Additionally, he had a great deal of experience in treating ICBC patients. Some of the common injuries related to ICBC patients include, whiplash, severe headaches, muscle strain, nerve damage, and disc herniation.

    Tony will assess your condition, give you options for treatment, and work with you to achieve your desired results. Whether you have issues such as pain and soreness from daily activities or age related, stress and tension headache, sport or other injury, limited range of motion, rehabilitation, health maintenance or just relaxation, you will be in good hands. 

    Tony delivers effective treatments by incorporating different modalities such as myofascial release, trigger point therapy, joint mobilizations, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, active and passive stretching, Swedish and deep tissue massage. Each treatment is followed by a review of home care to support you to live a healthy and balanced lifestyle. He does not simply treat symptoms or complains, but helps you understand the cause and how you can minimize the occurrence in the future.

    In his spare time, Tony enjoys long walks with his beloved dogs, going to the gym and spending time with friends.

  • Wonyoung YU

    Registered Acupuncturist

    Wonyoung(Young) YU is a registered acupuncturist in BC(CTCMA).

    Young specializes in pain management with the Traditional Chinese Medicine –combining Balanced method, Sa Am chim technique, and Scalp/Ear Acupuncture as well as Electro-acupuncture. He is also proficient in acupressure (Tuina massage), various glass cupping techniques and scrapping (GuaSha) therapy. It quickly reduces pain and restores the balance between muscles by improving Qi and blood circulation. This overall can provide well rounded healing in chronic pain, sports injuries and MVA whiplash injuries.

    He also has a special interest in coordinating emotional and physical balance. He uses a traditional acupuncture technique to help with physical and emotional disorders including stress-resulting symptoms/diseases, insomnia, anxiety, and depression by re-balancing the energies of  Yin & Yang, and restoring the functions of internal organs.

    He has completed the 4 years TCM Practitioner program at the Tzu Chi International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He originally studied Music in Korea and worked as a professional music composer for over a decade.

    His goal is to bring holistic health in your life which comes from mind-body healing.

  • Jasmine Parmar

    Registered Kinesiologist

    Jasmine graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a major in exercise science. She has also obtained a diploma in sport science from Douglas College. Jasmine is a certified and practicing kinesiologist who provides active rehabilitation services.  

    Jasmine believes that the key to a fast and effective recovery is through exercise and movement. Having an active lifestyle is an essential component to address most muscle and joint problems. Jasmine enjoys playing sports, predominantly soccer, and loves to go on hikes.

    Jasmine is fluent in Punjabi and is able to understand Hindi.

  • Daniel Nguyen


    Daniel graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and is a registered member of the BC Association of Kinesiologists. Daniel is a certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He is currently working towards his Nutrition Coach certification.  

    Growing up, Daniel was involved in physical activity. He played sports, such as basketball, hockey, and volleyball. Daniel also enrolled in martial arts and began lifting weights shortly after. During this time, Daniel discovered his passion for active living and decided to pursue a career in the health field.  

    Daniel likes to spend his time working out, playing hockey, or with family and friends.
